MANILA, Philippines – LeBron James may have one foot out of the door, but Cleveland Cavaliers guard Collin Sexton is not about to let the man go.
Just minutes after getting drafted 8th overall in the 2018 NBA Draft on Thursday, June 21 (Friday, June 22 in Manila), the 6-foot-2 19-year-old made his pitch to rein in the 15-year veteran at home.
They don’t call him “Young Bull” for nothing. He’s charging straight to the point.
He’s no slouch on the court, either. In 33 games with Alabama, the former USA Under-17 MVP posted averages of 19.2 points, 3.8 rebounds and 3.6 assists on 50% shooting and 34% from the beyond the arc.
The final remnant left in Cleveland from the Kyrie Irving trade is even seizing the vacant jersey number 2. Talk about handling the pressure.

Ultimately, his character is what won him over with the Cavaliers’ management, per ESPN’s Dave McMenamin.
The Cavs were ultimately won over by Collin Sexton's competitiveness, character and overall drive. He did not have a knockout individual workout in CLE in terms of skill work or shooting, but the team was enamored by him as a person and what they saw from him in game settings.

But fearlessness and scoring abilities aside, will Sexton alone be enough to win back the man who won Cleveland its first major sports title in 52 years? Time will tell.
As of now, LeBron is currently in the crosshairs of pretty much every team in the league entering free agency on July 2, Manila time.
The Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Lakers, San Antonio Spurs, Philadelphia 76ers and Irving’s Boston Celtics have all emerged as the early favorite landing spots for the 4-time MVP aside from Cleveland.
Adding an unproven rookie in Sexton alone would be a hard sell for the Cavs, when compared to the other teams who have experienced All-Star talents on their side.
