MANILA, Philippines – The 2018 NBA Draft had all the twists and turns expected from a loaded selection, but things took a turn for the awkward when the Philadelphia 76ers drafted Mikal Bridges 10th overall on Thursday, June 21 (Friday, June 22 in Manila).
Bridges – a 21-year-old Philadelphia native playing for his home state’s Villanova University where he won two championships – was subsequently traded to the Phoenix Suns for the 16th pick Zhaire Smith and a 2021 first-round pick.
With that out of the way, let’s hear from his mom, Tyneeha Rivers, the Philadelphia 76ers’ vice president for human resources, talk about her son just 10 minutes before that trade went down.

That was just painful to watch.
As expected, social media did not take the move sitting down, and blasted out the memes for the world to see.

A lot of tweets other than the memes did not age well. Like, at all.
What. A. Story.

Mikal Bridges – born in Philadelphia. Grew up in PA. 2x National Champion at Villanova. Played almost all of his final home games this season at Wells Fargo Center. Mom works in HR at the 76ers. And now, he’s the newest lottery pick for the @sixers. SO AWESOME.

The business world of the NBA is cold, dark and sometimes downright cruel, and Mikal will have… bridges to burn. – Rappler.com
