LOOK: Sixers draft hometown kid Bridges, but things turn awkward
The mom of NBA Draft pick Mikal Bridges gets all thrilled that his son is 'coming home,' but the Philly Sixers trade him to the Phoenix Suns minutes later

MANILA, Philippines –  The 2018 NBA Draft had all the twists and turns expected from a loaded selection, but things took a turn for the awkward when the Philadelphia 76ers drafted Mikal Bridges 10th overall on Thursday, June 21 (Friday, June 22 in Manila).

Bridges – a 21-year-old Philadelphia native playing for his home state’s Villanova University where he won two championships – was subsequently traded to the Phoenix Suns for the 16th pick Zhaire Smith and a 2021 first-round pick.

With that out of the way, let’s hear from his mom, Tyneeha Rivers, the Philadelphia 76ers’ vice president for human resources, talk about her son just 10 minutes before that trade went down.

That was just painful to watch.

As expected, social media did not take the move sitting down, and blasted out the memes for the world to see.

How about some George Bush edits?

 Iconic Stephen A. Smith clips?

And of course, your standard Avengers: Infinity War meme:

A lot of tweets other than the memes did not age well. Like, at all.

The business world of the NBA is cold, dark and sometimes downright cruel, and Mikal will have… bridges to burn. – Rappler.com
