MANILA, Philippines – Calvin Abueva defended his actions after Ray Parks blasted him for cursing and making obscene gestures towards his girlfriend in a 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup game between Blackwater and Phoenix. 

Abueva allegedly motioned like he’s jerking off to Parks’ girlfriend, former tennis player and actress Maika Rivera, after he fouled out late in the Fuel Masters’ 103-98 win over the Elite on Friday, May 31. 

Parks said Abueva also called Rivera a “b**ch” and flashed the dirty finger. (READ: Parks says Abueva cursed, made obscene gestures towards his girlfriend)

“Ang ginawa sa’kin, alam niyo naman na na-foul trouble ako, graduate ako, sabi sa’kin, ‘Hey, get out of here,’ parang, ‘Umalis ka dito. F**k you ka,’” Abueva told reporters through a phone patch. 

(I was in foul trouble and I fouled out, she told me, ‘Hey, get out of here.’ She told me like, ‘Get out of here. F**k you.’)

“Ah, talaga? Tignan niyo muna ‘yung lamang bago ka gumanyan. Sino ka bakit mo ako aanuhin? Nagkamali ka ata ng kinalaban.” 

(Oh really? Look at the score first before you tell me to leave. Who are you to do that to me? You went up against the wrong person.) 

Abueva said it was Rivera – and not him – who started the incident.

“Ako, oo, gago ako sa court pero ‘yung gagaguhin mo ako? Iba na ‘yun. Rookie pa lang ‘yung boyfriend mo and then nag-aangas ka na parang something na may nagawa na ‘yung boyfriend mo.” 

(I’m a jerk on court but why would you do that stupid thing to me? That’s different. Your boyfriend is just a rookie then you act like he has already done something in this league.) 

“Siyempre ka-rookie rookie tapos aanuhin mo ako? ‘Di ba? Anong reason niya na mag-ganoon ganoon siya? Ano siya, nasa NBA? Haler, wala siya sa NBA, nasa Pilipinas siya.” 

(He’s a rookie then you say something like that to me? What’s her reason to do that? Is she in the NBA? She’s not in the NBA, she’s in the Philippines.)

“Kaya ‘wag silang mag-angas na parang kumbaga ako pa ‘yung may mali. Nasa court tayo eh, wala naman tayo sa labas. Eh kung nasa labas pinersonal kita, doon ka mag-iiyak.” 

(They shouldn’t act like I’m the one who was wrong. We’re on the court, we’re not outside. If we’re outside and I did something bad to you, then that’s when you cry.) 

An upset Parks told reporters he expects the Phoenix star to be fined by the PBA and to issue an apology, but Abueva finds no reason to do so. 

“Bakit ako mafa-fine? Bakit ako magpa-public apology? Nasa court tayo, wala naman tayo sa labas eh. ‘Di ba? Bakit ko gagawin ‘yun? Bakit sino ba may mali doon? Ako ba nauna? Hindi naman ako nauna eh,” he said.

(Why should I be fined? Why should I make a public apology? We’re on the court, we’re not outside. Why would I do that? Who was wrong? Did I start it? I didn’t start it.) 

Abueva is set to be summoned by PBA commissioners Willie Marcial next week. – Rappler.com
