ONE Championship: Torres falls anew against Malaysian foe
Filipina brawler Jomary Torres fails to end her losing slump against Jihin Radzuan

MANILA, Philippines – Filipina brawler Jomary “The Zamboanginian Fighter” Torres (4-4) bowed out against crowd favorite Jihin “Shadow Cat” Radzuan (5-1) in ONE: Masters of Destiny in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Friday, July 12.

Radzuan impressively locked in a triangle choke that forced Torres to tap out with less than two minutes remaining in the opening round.

The 23-year-old fighter from Zamboanga showcased her strength and skills as she slipped her way to the top after a successful take down from Radzuan. Torres slammed Radzuan’s body to the canvass twice, but it was proven costly as it opened for the submission attempt that eventually finished the match.

The losing woes continue for Torres, who’s currently on a four-game slump after starting her MMA career on a fiery streak while redemption’s complete for the Malaysian fighter, who came in from a split decision loss against Team Lakay’s Gina Iniong last February.

On the other hand, Brazilian jiu-jitsu legend Michelle Nicolini (6-2) pulled an upset against the ONE women’s atomweight champion “Unstoppable” Angela Lee (9-2) as she took the victory via unanimous decision.

The 37-year-old Brazilian asserted her grappling mastery from the get-go and was able to dictate the fight on the ground in all 3 rounds.

The Brazilian’s fists were able to find Lee’s face in the 2nd round despite the outstanding ground defense of the Singapore superstar that neutralized Nicolini’s submission attempts.

Lee tried to bring the fire on the final round as she pounded her opponent to the ground, but Nicolini’s grappling dominance completely outshone the champion’s performance.

Lee, who’s set to have a rematch against Xiong Jing Nan in October, is still winless since moving up to the strawweight division.

In the main event, Giorgio “The Doctor” Petrosyan advanced to the semifinals of the ONE Featherweight Kickboxing World Grand Prix as he edged Petchmorakot Petchyindee Academy via unanimous decision.

The two fighters first met in the ring last May where Petchmorakot won via a controversial split decision. However, the decision was overturned to a ‘No Contest’.
