MANILA, Philippines – Teen golf star Yuka Saso completed a come-from-behind win to bag the 2019 Girls Junior Professional Golf Association (PGA) crown on Friday, July 12 (Saturday, July 13, Philippine time) at the Keney Park Golf Course in Hartford, Conneticut.
Saso, who was trailing defending champion Rose Zhang by one stoke entering the last round, closed out the competition with a a 3-under 67 to finish at 14-under for the title.
The Filipino golf star recovered from her bogeys in holes No. 3 and No. 5 and cruised through the rest of the competition with 5 birdies.
The Chinese, though, blew her lead in the final round with back-to-back bogeys on holes 5 and 6, which allowed Saso’s birdie in hole No. 10 to nab solo lead in the round.
The Filipino golf star improved from her 6th place finish in last year’s tournament.
The victory again boosted Saso’s chances of qualifying for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics as she’s also the reigning 2018 Asian Games double gold medalist in the individual and women’s team events while holding back-to-back Philippine Ladies Open titles. – Rappler.com
