Brownlee erupts for 50 as Ginebra survives Columbian in OT
Justin Brownlee raises his game to another level as the Gin Kings head into the playoffs as the No. 4 seed

MANILA, Philippines – Justin Brownlee hit the half-century mark for the first time and helped Barangay Ginebra edge Columbian in overtime, 127-123, in the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup at the Araneta Coliseum on Sunday, July 14.

The reigning Best Import of the Conference raised his game to another level by delivering a career-high 50 points, 14 rebounds, 5 assists, 4 blocks, and 4 steals as the Gin Kings head into the quarterfinals as the No. 4 seed with a 7-4 record.

Although the game had no bearing on both teams’ quarterfinals chances with the Dyip already out of playoff contention, not one squad wanted to give an inch until Brownlee hit some big shots down the stretch.

After his three-pointer was answered by Columbian import Lester Prosper to knot the contest at 123-123, Brownlee gave Ginebra the upper hand anew behind a midrange jumper with 30 seconds remaining.

The Dyip had enough time to either level the score or take the lead, but Rashawn McCarthy missed his three-point try and Prosper saw his layup hit only the front of the rim.

LA Tenorio, who finished with 15 points and 6 assists, then sealed the victory with a pair of free throws with two ticks left.

Stanley Pringle highlighted his 16-point, 8-rebound, and 7-assist outing by draining the floater that forced overtime for the Gin Kings, while Japeth Aguilar contributed 20 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 blocks.

Also making their presence felt in the win were Scottie Thompson, who had 12 points, 9 rebounds, and 8 assists, and Greg Slaughter, who churned out 9 points and 10 rebounds.

Prosper was just as magnificent as Brownlee with 45 points, 18 rebounds, and 2 steals, but Columbian could not end its campaign on a winning note as it fell to 3-8.

CJ Perez had 20 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists, McCarthy chimed in 14 points, 11 assists, 8 rebounds, and 2 steals, while Glenn Khobuntin added 17 points in the loss.
