MANILA, Philippines – No less than 2006 World Cup champion Fabio Cannavaro and former Chelsea captain Dennis Wise will be spicing up the second staging of the star-studded Clear Dream Match on August 24.

The two will join brothers Phil and James Younghusband, and the country’s biggest football stars in an exhibition match for the benefit of Tuloy sa Don Bosco Foundation in a venue yet to be announced.

“I look forward to getting there [in the Philippines] and play with the football stars of your country,” the 46-year-old Wise said in a video clip.

The Younghusband brothers once played as reserve players for Chelsea, the same club where Wise made his mark in the 90’s. During his days playing for the West London side, he copped the UEFA Cup and Supercup titles in 1998, and became a several-time FA Cup and Charity Shield winner.

“When we were still training with Chelsea, we used to watch Wise play all the time. He is like a legend to us,” James said about the Chelsea legend.

World Cup champion

Cannavaro, meanwhile, also has a lot of achievements tucked under his belt.

The skipper of the World Cup-winning Italy squad in 2006, Cannavaro has played for some of the biggest clubs in the world such as Juventus, Inter Milan, and Real Madrid. He also took the prestigious FIFA World Player of the Year plum in 2006.

“During the FIFA World Cup, I was watching on TV and cheering with the rest of the world as Cannavaro led Italy to the championship,” Phil added.

“We wanted to shake things up this year by bringing in two international football legends to compete with our country’s best,” Clear Philippines Brand Manager Drew Copuyoc in a press conference Wednesday, July 10 at the K-Pub BBQ in Taguig City.

Cannavaro, Wise, and the Younghusbands will be joined by players chosen from a 50-man pool comprised of local stars like Chieffy Caligdong, Anton del Rosario and Daniel Matsunaga among others.

Phil and James Younghusband will be drafting the Top 30 players in the online voting on August 10. – Rappler.com
