MANILA, Philippines — Azkal Phil Younghusband is on the top of his game — and on the top of the list of the world’s top scorers.

The FIFA-backed International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS), which has given the World Top Goal Scorer award to footballers who fit the bill since 1991, has ranked the Fil-Brit striker 3rd on their list of top goal scorers as of April 30.

Younghusband finds himself behind FC Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi, who has just led his team to their 5th Champions League semis appearance, and FC Shalke’s Dutch standout Klaas-Jan Huntelaar.

The IFFHS, which bases its count on goals scored in international and high-level continental club tournaments, has last year’s winner Messi atop the list yet again with 9 goals, Huntelaar on 2nd with 8 goals, followed by Younghusband with 6 goals.

All of Younghusband’s goals comes from the recent Asian Football Confederation Challenge Cup in Kathmandu, Nepal where the men’s Philippine football team brought home the bronze, thanks in large part to Younghusband’s stellar performance.

The 24 year-old’s 6 goals also earned him the tournament’s Golden Boot award, given to the player who scored the most number of goals in the competition.

To round off the list of the top 10 are Chelsea’s Didier Drogba, Valencia’s Roberto Soldado, Bayern Munich’s Arjen Robben, Colombia’s Radamel Falcao, Ghana’s Emmanuel Atukwei Clottey, FC Bayern’s Mario Gomez, and Colombia’s Dorlan Pabon — all tied with 5 goals each. –
