MANILA, Philippines – “It was a lucky shot. I just went for the offensive rebound and I took the shot.”

Down by one with the clock ticking away in overtime, Almond Vosotros turned a broken play into a winning shot as he lifted De La Salle University to a down-the-wire 70-69 victory over Adamson University in the 76th UAAP men’s basketball tournament Wednesday, August 14 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Very aware of the revenge-conscious Soaring Falcons, the 5-foot-10 senior showed nerves of steel in crunch time as he gave the Green Archers the lead not once, but twice in the last two minutes of the extra period to bring La Salle back to .500.

Even after a Roider Cabrera triple gave Adamson a 3-point lead inside the last minute of the game, the Green Archers did not wither in the clutch as Norbert Torres and Vosotros delivered just in time, with the winning shot coming off a frenzy battle for rebound.

The ball then ended up in the hands of Vosotros who nailed the jumper over the Adamson interior to win the game for La Salle with 1.8 seconds left.

Don Trollano made an impact for the Soaring Falcons as he scored all of his 9 points in the first half to keep the game close but it was Rodney Brondial who forced overtime as he poured in all of ADU’s 9 points in the last 4 minutes of regulation.

It did not end up their way, however, as Vosotros went steady all game long, finishing the game with a team-high 19 points across his name while Arnold Van Opstal added 13 for the Taft-based squad.

It was an even-steven match for most of the game as no team led by more than 5 at the end of each period Brondial led Adamson’s losing cause with 19 markers and a career-high 23 rebounds with Jericho Cruz and Roider Cabrera pitching in 15 and 11 respectively. – Rappler.com
