FEU escapes UE in 2OT thriller

MANILA, Philippines — The Tamaraws are back in the hunt. 

Far Eastern University rose from the grave to beat University of the East, 98-94, in double overtime to get back to its winning ways in the 76th UAAP men’s basketball tournament on Sunday, August 25, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Terrence Romeo fired a career-high 30 points, including 5 in the second overtime, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals to lead the Tamaraws, who had to come back from 7 points down in the last 23 seconds of the first overtime to survive.

Gryann Mendoza (15 points and 13 rebounds) and Mike Tolomia (13 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists) also came up big for the Morayta-based squad, too, and rifled in 3 3-pointers in the most crucial moments to help FEU improve to 8-2. 

The Red Warriors suffered their first defeat of the second half of the season and saw their 4-game winning streak snapped.

UE fell to 5-4 and into a tie with Ateneo de Manila University for 4th place. – Rappler.com
