Can the Meralco Power Spikers cool the Lady Rising Suns?
Sitting atop the standings with a 3-0 record, Cagayan Valley goes for its 4th straight win and remain unbeaten when it battle dangerous Meralco on Sunday, August 31 in the 10th Shakey’s V-League Open Conference at the FilOil Flying V Arena.
The Lady Rising Suns pummeled Philippine Navy in their last outing, 25-12, 25-12, 25-16 behind Angeli Tabaquero and Aiza Maizo, who scored 13 and 12 points, respectively.
Despite his team’s unblemished card, Cagayan Valley head coach Nes Pamilar thinks his team has details in their game they still need to work on.
“Meron pa rin ‘yan (Things to improve), wala pa kaming balikan e, ‘yung rally na matagal,” said Pamilar. “Siguro ‘yang Meralco na ‘yan ay ‘di pa lang nagje-jell.”
“Parang All-Star din ‘yan (Meralco), maraming magagaling na players,” he added.
On the other hand, the Power Spikers needed 5 sets to edge Far Eastern University in their last assignment, 25-12, 25-22, 18-25, 23-25, 15-13.
Chinese reinforcement Coco Wang led Meralco’s charge with 23 points while veteran Maureen Penetrante wounded up with 14 points. Steph Mercado and Maica Morada had 11 hits each and Fille Cainglet scored 10 for the Power Spikers.
Meanwhile, Philippine Army takes on Philippine Navy in the curtain-raiser.
The Lady Troopers are fresh from a 25-13, 25-22, 25-18 win over Philippine Air Force.
Lefty Jovelyn Gonzaga top scored for the Army with 16 points while evergreen Ging Balse chipped in 11.
The Lady Sailors, on the other hand, are coming off from a 25-12, 25-12, 25-16 beating from Cagayan Valley in their last match.– Rappler.com
