Romeo fires 32 as FEU returns to Final 4

MANILA, Philippines — Far Eastern University returned to the semifinals after downing Adamson University, 92-80, in the 76th UAAP men’s basketball tournament on Saturday, September 7 at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Terrence Romeo erupted for a career-high 32 points as the Tamaraws recorded their 9th win in 13 games to book a seat to the Final Four after a one-year absence.

The guard made 10 of 13 shots from within the arc while also grabbing 8 rebounds and issuing 4 assists to lead FEU, who improved to 2-4 in the second round and maintained its chances of grabbing a twice-to-beat advantage with the win.

“The only thing I wrote sa board was F4,” said coach Nash Racela. “I wanted to remind them that it’s our initial goal. All we need to do was to get it.”

Mac Belo came up with 18 points and 9 rebounds even as former MVP RR Garcia turned in 14 markers, 4 boards, 6 assists and two steals for the Tamaraws.

Holding a precarious 44-40 lead at half time, the Morayta-based squad zoomed to a 19-3 run early in the 3rd period to turn a close game into a rout.

Belo started the run with 5 straight points before Romeo closed it out with 3 consecutive conversions as FEU built a 63-45 spread with 3:18 left before the final canto.

Meanwhile, the Soaring Falcons dropped to 4-9 in the penultimate game of Coach Leo Austria leading the squad, with Don Trollano pacing the team with a career-best 25 points. –
