MANILA, Philippines —Terrence Romeo might be happy he was named Most Valuable Player in UAAP Season 76, but the Far Eastern University guard still has one goal before he leaves the collegiate ranks: bring the title to Morayta next year.
“Sobra. Goal ko next year bago umalis ng FEU, gusto ko proud ang FEU community sa’kin,” said Romeo. “Kailangan ko pang mag-mature ng kaunti.”
A proud legacy
Romeo said all his sacrifices during practice paid off the moment he received the MVP trophy and until now, he couldn’t describe how he exactly felt.
“Sobrang saya. Hindi lahat nabibigyan ng ganitong award. Naisip ko, nagbunga lahat ng hardwork ko sa practice,” said the Season 73 Rookie of the Year.
He also added it’s a huge honor to be part of an exclusive list of FEU stars who’ve won the MVP award in the past — Johnny Abarrientos, Arwind Santos and teammate RR Garcia.
“Nakaka-proud. Sobra. Lahat sila nag succeed sa careers nila. Hopefully ganun rin sa’kin,” said Romeo, who is also a former UAAP Juniors MVP.
On to the next chapter
And even before Romeo jumpstarts his Season 77 mission, he will already have a goal to fulfill when he suits up for the national team in the 2013 Southeast Asian Games. He said it’s another dream come true for him and he’ll dedicate the games to his fellow countrymen.
“Bata pa ako pangarap ko nang makapaglaro sa Pilipinas. Ibibigay ko ang best ko para maging proud ang mga kapwa nating Pilipino,” he shared.
Romeo is expected to join fellow the finest amateur stars as the Philippines defends its SEA Games crown.
Aside from his national team stint, Romeo is slated to play in the PBA D League, which serves as his stepping stone to a professional career.
“Pangarap ko rin ‘yung PBA. Sana makapag-PBA ‘rin,” he added. – Rappler.com
