MANILA, Philippines – First blood belongs to the Lions.

After a slow start, the San Beda Red Lions used a 4th quarter onslaught to win Game 1, 80-68, and get their noses ahead, 1-0, in the best-of-3 Finals series against rivals Letran Knights on Monday, November 11 at the Mall of Asia Arena.

The Lions and the Knights were both cold out of the gates, finishing the first quarter tied at 12. Both teams were marred by sloppy passing and execution on both ends of the floor.

With starters from both squads having trouble getting into a groove, varying faces contributed early on. Among them were Joseph Gabawan and Reneford Ruaya who contributed 4 apiece for Letran in the first half. The Semerad brothers also came up big early and combined for 9 points in the 2nd quarter alone.

Come the 3rd quarter, the bigmen for both teams came alive with Raymond Almazan finally pouring 14 points to his name and Ola Adeogun poured in 7 in that quarter.

But come the payoff period, the Knights looked lost with playmaker Mark Cruz sitting on the bench and Almazan unable to carry his teammates, as the Lions began running away with the game courtesy of their impressive three-point shooting. The Lions outscored the Knights, 33-15, in the final quarter.
