MANILA, Philippines – Brgy. Ginebra San Miguel sustained their winning run in the PLDT myDSL PBA Philippine Cup with a 97-84 walloping of Rain or Shine on Sunday, November 24 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Ginebra’s towering duo of Greg Slaughter and Japeth Aguilar inflicted damage early, combining for 15 points in the first quarter as Ginebra raced towards a 29-13 edge over the Elasto Painters.

Ginebra dominated the first half but Rain or Shine put up a better fight in the third quarter, with Jeff Chan hitting two treys and Beau Belga getting open cracks at the basket. The Elasto Painters got back and pulled to within 2, 62-64 before tension rose in the highly-physical encounter.

Jay-R Reyes was slapped with a technical foul in the ensuing play after not liking a hard foul from Belga. Reyes tried to retaliate but cooler heads prevailed.

The incident however proved to be the turning point as it pumped up the Ginebra crew; Japeth Aguilar threw down a ferocious jam and LA Tenorio hit a short stab to end the third, 68-62.

The crowd favorites continued the momentum, starting the fourth period on a blistering 17-5 run to break the game wide open, 85-67.

Ryan Arana tried to salvage the game for the Elasto Painters, putting 5 straight points to cut the deficit down to 9, 79-88.

But a 7-0 run highlighted by a Slaughter and-one play sealed the deal for Ginebra as they move to share of first place along with Petron.

“The energy was there, the hustle, the team effort. We had a good start and we were able to give our best even if (Rain or Shine) tried to comeback,” said Ginebra head coach Ato Agustin.
