MANILA, Philippines – Japeth Aguilar drilled the game-winning triple and came up with a huge defensive stop as Ginebra shocked Talk ‘N Text, 97-95 in the PLDT myDSL PBA Philippine Cup on Sunday, December 8 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The Gilas Pilipinas standout drained the huge triple in the last 1.1 seconds and blocked a Ranidel De Ocampo jumper on the other end to save Ginebra in front of more than 14,000 patrons inside the Big Dome.

“Our last play was just a pick and roll for Japeth (Aguilar), I told them to go hard to the basket. Swerte lang, pumasok,” said Ginebra head coach Ato Agustin. (We’re lucky it went in).

With Jayson Castro rifling in 4 treys in the first half alone, the Tropang Texters held a double-digit advantage, 80-68, entering the final period.

But Ginebra found the spark after fielding in former Smart Gilas forward Mac Baracael, who knocked down three triples in the fourth quarter, including one that gave his team the lead at 91-88 with just 2:20 left.

Jimmy Alapag then sank 3 free throws and Kelly Williams scored a putback to give TNT the upper hand, 93-92.

Japeth Aguilar sank an off-balanced shot before Larry Fonacier went through screens to push the Tropang Texters ahead, 95-94, leaving Ginebra with 22.9 more seconds to operate.

In the final possession, LA Tenorio burned as much time as possible before feeding Aguilar with the dagger triple to complete the comeback.

The high-flying forward finished with 21 points, 12 rebounds, and 7 blocks. Chris Ellis contributed 17 markers even as Jayson Castro’s 27-point, 6-assist effort went to waste.
