MANILA, Philippines – The National University Lady Bulldogs retained strong hold of the second spot as they dispatched the University of Santo Tomas Tigresses, 25-16, 25-20, 25-23, in the 76th UAAP Women’s Volleyball tournament, Wednesday, January 22, at The Arena in San Juan City.

The win kept the Lady Bulldogs in striking distance of league leaders De La Salle University – which currently sports an 8-0 win-loss record – as they improve their standing to 8-1.

Dindin Santiago once again spearheaded NU as she tallied in a game-high 16 markers as her sister Jaja, and Carmina Aganon scored 12 points apiece.

The Lady Bulldogs came out of the gates rumbling as they cruised to a 25-16 opening frame win, courtesy of the Santiago sisters, who were unstoppable on both ends of the court.

Although the Tigresses kept them on their toes after the opening set, NU put on a spirited assault in the second frame as Aganon joined in the fray to give the Lady Bulldogs a two-set lead, 25-20.

Just as NU was looking poised to sail to an easy win, UST threatened to extend the game into another set as Ma. Loren Lantin brought the Tigresses to within 1, 23-24 but the Espana crew crumbled to pressure to hand the Lady Bulldogs a straight sets win, 25-23.

With the loss, UST drops to 3-6 as Season 76 nears its homestretch.
