MANILA, Philippines – As part of this year’s NBA 3X Philippines festivities, Toronto Raptors All-Star DeMar DeRozan and swingman Wesley Johnson made their way to our country as this season’s special guests.
The Raptors’ All-Star guard shared some time with Rappler for an exclusive interview.
DeRozan discussed how it’s been like helping the Raptors ascend back to prominence in the Eastern Conference, and what steps the franchise needs to take in the near future in order to reach an even higher level – which is now more imminent with Kyle Lowry agreeing to re-sign with the team.
He also talked about the experience he gained going up against a Brooklyn Nets team laden with veterans like Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, Joe Johnson, and Deron Williams. He mentioned how special the support they got from their fan base was as they made it back to the postseason after a six-year absence.
Rappler also got to talk to Wesley Johnson, a current unrestricted free agent who spent last season playing for the Los Angeles Lakers.
Johnson gave some insight on some of the challenging aspects of being an NBA player that goes under the radar.
