NANJING, China The Olympic fire has been lit and the games are on! 

The opening ceremony of the 2014 Nanjing Summer Youth Olympic Games (YOG) was held Saturday, August 16, kickstarting the multi-sport event that will run until August 27. Some 62,000 athletes, international delegates and locals attended the ceremonies in the Nanjing Olympic Arena.

The performances showed a mix of Chinese history, tradition, pop culture, and even acrobatics. 

Aside from International Olympic Committee (IOC) president Thomas Bach and Chinese President Xi Jinping, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, and Singapore Prime Minister Lee-Hsien Loong, also graced the event.
