MANILA, Philippines – Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star point guard Russell Westbrook sustained a small fracture of the second metacarpal in his right hand in his team’s 93-90 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers on Friday, October 31, OKC head coach Scott Brooks said.
The injury occured in the second quarter as he went up for a rebound and teammate Kendrick Perkins elbowed his hand. The multi-dimensional guard then left the game at the 6:35 mark of the quarter.
Westbrook returned to the Thunder bench in the third quarter with his hand wrapped with a bag of ice.
ESPN Los Angeles also reports that Westbrook almost got into an altercation with a heckling fan as he was exiting the playing court during the second quarter.
The point guard’s was the latest in a series of unfortunate injuries for the Thunder, who are playing without Kevin Durant (foot), Reggie Jackson (ankle), and Jeremy Lamb (back), among others.
The Thunder are now 0-2 in the 2014-2015 NBA season. They lost their season opener on Thursday, October 30, to the Portland Trail Blazers, in which Westbrook finished with 38 points and 6 assists in 33 minutes.
Westbrook played 9 minutes and recorded 2 points and 4 assists before leaving the OKC-LAC game. – Rappler.com
