Kaya defeats Stallion, needs Global loss to take title

MANILA, Philippines — For Kaya FC, it’s now all up to fate.

Kaya did their job and will depend on Loyola Meralco Sparks to defeat Global FC in the hopes of winning the United Football League after they dispatched Penson Stallions FC 1-0 in the first match of the United Football League Championship Tuesday, June 26 at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium

Nate Burkey’s 43rd minute goal gave Kaya the solitary goal heading into half time from a Joshua Beloya pass inside the penalty area.

Stallions dominated the first half with several chances from Lee Joo Young and skipper Ruben Doctora Jr. However their efforts was well denied by Kaya goalkeeper Saba Sadeghi Garmaroudi.

Kaya striker Eric Dagroh almost made it for Kaya in the second half with numerous chances on Wilson Muñoz’s goal.

Substitute Jovanie Simpron almost equalized for Stallion in the 61st minute after he was found by Doctora inside the penalty area, but his shot was denied by Saba.

Stallion had to end the match with ten men after Doctora was given his second yellow card in the 82nd minute after a foul on Saba. 

Kaya ends the season with 42 points.

Global, which has 41 points before their championship game against Loyola, will need to win in order to get the title. A loss will mean automatic victory for Kaya. – Rappler.com
