NBA announces All-Star starters, Curry top vote-getter

MANILA, Philippines – Golden State Warriors’ Stephen Curry is the top vote-getter for the 2015 NBA All-Star Game that will be held in New York City at the Madison Square Garden on Feb 15.

Curry, who had a total of 1.51 million votes, overtook 4-time league MVP LeBron James who was leading the voting weeks prior to the announcement. James finished second in global fan voting with 1.47 million votes.

The sharp-shooting playmaker of Golden State has been on a tear this season leading the Warriors to an NBA-best record, 34-6. He’s also at the top of season MVP discussions after showing significant improvements in his game.

Kobe Bryant was voted to be part of the starting lineup but a torn rotator cuff could keep the Lakers superstar from participating in the event for the second consecutive year.

This season’s NBA mid-season event will feature a number of first-time starters, including New Orleans Pelicans versatile big man Anthony Davis.

Clippers forward Blake Griffin and Grizzlies center Marc Gasol make up the West’s frontcourt.

New York forward Carmelo Anthony and Chicago big man Pau Gasol will join James in the frontcourt for the Eastern Conference, while Washington point guard John Wall and Toronto’s Kyle Lowry makeup the backcourt.

The selection of Marc and Pau Gasol mark the first time that two brothers will start in an NBA All-Star Game.

Atlanta’s Mike Budenholzer and Golden State’s Steve Kerr will be the head coaches for the game. The head coaches will select their reserves, to be announced on January 29.
