MANILA, Philippines – The country’s premier football competition, United Football League (UFL), is set to kick off its new season with a triple header at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium on Saturday, February 7.
Newly promoted division 1 clubs Ceres La Salle FC and Manila Jeepney FC will be battling it out in the first game followed by a match between Kaya FC and Philippine Army FC.
Global FC will start their league title defense with a bout against Green Archers United FC to cap off the games for the first match date of the local top tier football tournament.
Despite being unsuccessful in their last two campaigns in the FA League Cup and the Philippine Football Federation-Smart National Club Championship, the defending league champs are ready to prove that they are worthy to be called kings of local football.
According to Global FC coach Leigh Manson, his team is in better form than they were during their last UFL league match.
He added, “The players are fit, they are excited, and it’s good to get our first league game after the final [PFF-Smart Championship] so we can put things right.”
A total of 10 clubs will be going against each other in a double round elimination format in the first division of the 6-month long league, the winner of which will automatically qualify for the next edition of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Cup. – Rappler.com
