What’s Your GAMEPLAN Profiles (#WYGP) is a series on different athletes – from the newbies to the veterans, from everyday athletes to professionals

MANILA, Philippines – What’s Your GAMEPLAN Profiles (#WYGP) is a series on different athletes – from the newbies to the veterans, from everyday athletes to professionals – talking about their sport and why they are passionate about it.  They attempt to answer the question, “In sports, as in life, what’s your GAMEPLAN?”

This is the story of Raven Cruz, a free runner.

“It’s about freedom of movement, just you and your body lang… freedom of motion, freedom of movement, sariling style mo kung pano ka gagalaw. “

Raven Cruz is an avid practitioner of Parkour. He says Parkour changed him for the better. He overcame his fear of heights because of this sport.

Raven recalls, “May one moment ako na nahulog ako from 12 feet. Pero siyempre pag ‘di ko na-overcome ito, di ako makakamove on sa ibang skills ko.”

Parkour is a mind and body discipline that develops your movements to overcome obstacles and get you from one point to another in the most efficient way. Focus and momentum is important in this sport. Combinations of movements such as running, climbing, rolling, jumping, are practiced in various obstacle courses.

Raven says, “Parkour is a discipline din eh. Hindi sya katulad ng ibang sport na may competition. Happiness kasi.Parang bumabalik ka rin sa pagkabata. Parang nakakita ka ng bagong laruan, tapos ikaw bahala kung pano mo siya lalaruin or, kung pano mo siya gagawan ng art. “

Asked what his GAMEPLAN is, Raven says, “My GAMEPLAN in parkour as in life is to inspire other people. Parkour can help you build your own confidence. Yung mga obstacles na yan, nagrerepresent din siya sa mga problems sa buhay mo.”

Raven Cruz has been practicing parkour for two years. He is also one of the coaches at Ninja Academy of the Philippines.
