
MANILA, Philippines – The Philippines’ national basketball team won their second straight game in the 28th Southeast Asian Games by walloping Malaysia, 100-48, at the OCBC Arena in Singapore on Thursday, June 11.
Philippines, known as the Gilas Cadets, ran off to a 20-9 start in the first quarter and outscored their opponents by 17 in the second period to establish a 28-point lead at the half. Malaysia didn’t get any closer moving forward.
Almond Vosotros scorched from downtown with 5 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 21 points while former NU Bulldog Troy Rosario registered 18 points and 7 rebounds to lead the winning side. Naturalized Filipino Marcus Douthit put up 12 points and 8 boards.
As a team, Philippines shot 49% from the field and out-rebounded their opponents 42-26. Gilas also had 24 assists and forced Malaysia into 31 turnovers – 14 coming in the first quarter.
