MANILA, Philippines - Since its first participation in 1924, the Philippines has won 9 medals at the Olympic games. Its first medal, a bronze in swimming in 1928 was the first by a Southeast Asian nation. Twice, Filipinos have won silver, most recently in 1996 by Onyok Velasco in the sport of boxing.
