Filipina tennis ace Alex Eala reaches the semis in her pro doubles debut but exits in the singles event

Filipina teen tennis sensation Alex Eala emerged victorious again on Thursday, May 20 (Friday, May 21, Manila time) in the doubles event of the women’s $25,000 tournament in Platja D’aro in Spain.

Eala highlighted her grueling day of playing both singles and doubles events with a 6-2, 3-6, 12-10 win with her partner Oksana Selekhmeteva over the Russian pair of Vlada Koval and Sofya Lansere.

The mixed-nationality duo nailed a semifinal berth, where they will face the Dutch pair of Isabelle Haverlag and Suzan Lamens on Friday.

The 15-year-old Filipina wasn’t as lucky in the singles event as she fell to home bet Irene Burillo Escorihuela, 6-2, 6-4.

Eala was able to qualify for the main draw of the clay tournament via the junior exempt program.

This is where the top-ranked juniors players are allotted a number of pro tournament spots within the year.

This will allow Eala to warm up for the 2021 French Open juniors tournament, where she was accepted in the main draw.

The Filipina tennis ace hopes to surpass her breakthrough semifinal finish in the previous edition’s girls singles event. – Rappler.com
