MANILA, Philippines - One big step at a time.
Following a gallant effort in the recently concluded AFC Challenge Cup, the Philippine National Men's football team finds themselves moving up the the FIFA world rankings.
Previously ranked at 156th, the Azkals rose up 8 spots in the latest update of the world rankings to take the 148th spot which is the highest-ever position that the Philippines has ever reached on FIFA's list. The ranking also makes Philippines the third-highest ranked Southeast Asian country behind Vietnam which is ranked at 97 and Thailand ranked at 141.
Sidelined Team Captain Aly Borromeo was ecstatic after finding out about the rankings, "We're ranked 148 in the latest FIFA rankings climbing 8 spots! Keep on stepping!", he tweeted.
