Team USA shoots for its fourth straight finals appearance in the Olympics as it tries to cool red-hot Australia, which reached the semifinals undefeated

Fresh off a convincing 95-81 victory over Spain in the quarterfinals, Team USA now shifts its attention to its semifinal showdown against Australia in the Tokyo Olympics men’s basketball tournament on Thursday, August 5.

The Americans, who are enjoying a three-game winning streak, will be put to the ultimate test as they take on a red-hot Australian squad, which is currently undefeated in the tournament.

Coming off a 28-point explosion against Spain, Kevin Durant is expected to once again lead the way for the United States as the team shoots for its fourth straight finals appearance in the Olympics.

Durant, a two-time Olympic gold medalist and the United States’ all-time Olympic scoring leader, currently averages a team-high 18.0 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 4.3 assists in the tournament.

Meanwhile, Australia will bank on its star point guard Patty Mills, who finished with a game-high 18 points in their massive 38-point win over Argentina in the quarterfinals.

Mills, who is set to suit up for the Brooklyn Nets in the upcoming NBA season, is Australia’s top scorer in the tournament, averaging 20.8 points along with 5.3 assists and 3.3 rebounds.

Fellow NBA standouts Joe Ingles, Matisse Thybulle, Aron Baynes, and Dante Exum are also expected to deliver for the Boomers as they look to enter the finals for the first time in the country’s Olympic basketball history.

Game time is 12:15 pm, Philippine time.
