Johnriel Casimero gets a boost of confidence from retaining his WBO bantamweight crown

Johnriel Casimero’s next jab towards greatness is to become an undisputed boxing champion.

“My dream is to get all the 4 belts (118) – unification,” said Casimero, who boasted he’s willing to fight anybody, even UFC legend Conor McGregor, during the online Philippine Sportswriters Association Forum on Tuesday, September 29.

Still hyper after his impressive retention of the World Boxing Organization bantamweight crown, Casimero said he’s now chasing the big guns and fat paychecks.

That is if the price is right.

“I’m no longer keen on small fights. If I will earn just a little, I won’t fight,” said Casimero.

On Casimero’s hit list are Japanese Naoya Inoue, the World Boxing Association and International Boxing Federation champion, and Cuban Guillermo Rigondeaux at 118 pounds and Mexican Luis Nery of the World Boxing Council at 122 pounds.

Inoue, of course, remains Casimero’s primary target. He insists the “Japanese monster” has been ducking him since their April showdown got canceled.

According to Sean Gibbons, head of MP (Manny Pacquiao) Promotions, Casimero can look forward to lucrative deals after his 3-round demolition of Ghanaian Duke Micah in his first appearance on pay-per-view on Sunday, September 27.

“To me right now, Casimero is the most exciting, fun bantamweight out there,” said Gibbons. “Getting fights is no longer difficult. Showtime and PBC (Premier Boxing Champions) are so excited they want to know when they can get Casimero back on.”

For now, however, Casimero’s priority is to return home to his family in Ormoc City, whom he has not seen since he arrived in the United States and got holed up by the COVID-19 pandemic while training for the Inoue bout.

Though he would like to appear in the chief support of Pacquiao’s next fight, Casimero said he would prefer to be on another card where his star can shine again. – Rappler.com
