Manny Pacquiao graces revival of ‘Blow by Blow’

MANILA, Philippines – Boxing great Manny Pacquiao appeared at ringside as “Blow by Blow” made its return on Sunday, November 20, at the Mandaluyong City College Gym.

The battle between unbeaten Criztian Pitt Laurente of General Santos City and JR Magboo of Agoncillo, Batangas for the vacant Philippine Boxing Federation super featherweight crown headlined the first card of the show, which counts the eight-division world champion as its most brilliant find.

Pacquiao, who spearheaded the return of the show, which was very popular in the 1990s and was last staged five years ago, took a break from his training for an exhibition bout against Korean mixed martial artist and YouTuber DK Yoo on December 11 in Seoul to witness the initial edition.

“I am truly excited to be in the presence of these ambitious young fighters,” Pacquiao said on the eve of the slugfest being supported by the Mandaluyong City government through Mayor Ben Abalos.

Tasked by future Hall of Famer Pacquiao to oversee the logistics and functions of the league is two-time world champion Gerry Peñalosa, who will be assisted by seasoned matchmaker Art Monis.

“My decision to revive ‘Blow by Blow’ is for the long run and I hope the public will join me in the search for the next Filipino boxing hero,” said Pacquiao.

According to Pacquiao, he intends to hold a world title fight in the show next year. – Rappler.com
