Eddy Reynoso, who coaches Ryan Garcia, says he is not in favor of a fight between the 22-year-old and Manny Pacquiao, who is two decades older

Ryan Garcia has been vocal about his desire to fight Manny Pacquiao, but the trainer of the rising boxing star is not exactly fond of the idea.

Eddy Reynoso, who coaches Garcia, said he is not in favor of the potential bout between his 22-year-old ward and Pacquiao, who is two decades older.

“I really don’t like that fight,” Reynoso told Boxing Scene.

“Manny Pacquiao has all that experience, it’s a fight at a heavier weight against [a naturally] bigger fighter.”

Garcia currently competes in the lightweight division, where he is the interim World Boxing Council champion.

Meanwhile, Pacquiao – the only eight-division world champion in the sport – fights at a heavier class as a welterweight.

Pacquiao won the World Boxing Association (WBA) super welterweight title nearly two years ago but the organization relegated him to “champion in recess” due to his inactivity.

What Reynoso sees as a more suitable bout for Garcia is a duel against WBA regular lightweight titleholder Gervonta Davis.

“A fight between Ryan Garcia and Tank Davis can be the biggest fight in boxing,” Reynoso said.

“They are two of the biggest stars of this new generation. Manny Pacquiao is great but he’s part of a past generation.” – Rappler.com
