Mighty Sports continues dominant Jones Cup run with Jordan rout
Former PBA imports Eugene Phelps and Renaldo Balkman take charge as Mighty Sports-Philippines roll past the Jordanian national team

MANILA, Philippines – Mighty Sports-Go for Gold Philippines flexed dominance anew in the 41st William Jones Cup with a 90-74 blowout over Jordan on Saturday, July 13.

Former PBA imports Eugene Phelps and Renaldo Balkman ran wild on the Jordanian national team, leading Mighty with 20 and 17 points, respectively. Both stars combined for 11 rebounds and swatted 2 shots apiece as well.

Boasting a 2-0 record, Mighty faces sweet-shooting Japan next on Sunday, July 14, 3 pm.

Feeding off momentum from their drubbing of Iran U23, Mighty got off to a strong start with a 10-2 run in the opening frame, 21-14, ending with a Balkman and-one.

Phelps then scored 9 straight points to kick off the 2nd quarter before Roosevelt Adams punctuated the 13-1 run with a long two, 39-22. He capped his night off with 11 points on a 3-of-5 shooting from downtown.

The Charles Tiu-coached squad just continued to play stellar offense and defense well into the 3rd quarter. Fil-Am Mikey Williams took advantage of his squad’s smooth ball movement and dropped two straight threes for the 24-point gap, 68-44, with 35 seconds left in the period. He eventually finished with 9 points, all off open long bombs.

Jordan tried to pump life back to their game with a 10-2 run to start the 4th, but Mighty was simply too far ahead for it to make a difference down the stretch.

Ibrahim Fadi led Jordan in the losing effort with 13 points, 7 assists, 4 rebounds and 2 steals.
