Face-off: June Mar Fajardo vs Greg Slaughter

MANILA, Philippines – Will it finally happen?

All eyes will be on two skyscrapers as June Mar Fajardo and Greg Slaughter–two behemoths in their generation–slug it out for the first time in the PBA. Their first encounter would’ve been the 2013 Christmas Day game, which Ginebra won. Unfortunately, Fajardo had to sit the game out due to injury.

Fajardo and Slaughter are coming in almost identical when it comes to their head-to-head match-up. They’ve had several battles in their collegiate days under the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) and became teammates in Gilas Pilipinas. Both played for the national team and were drafted first overall (Fajardo in 2012, Slaughter in 2013) in the PBA draft. Listed at 6’11” and 7’0″ respectively, both are towering figures.

The two big men also finished in the top 5 in terms of statistical points in the PBA 2014 Philippine Cup, with June Mar Fajardo taking the honors as Best Player of the Conference.

“The Kraken” and “Gregzilla” are set to bang bodies Sunday, March 9 at 5:15pm as the San Miguel Beermen and Barangay Ginebra face each other for the first time in the PBA 2014 Commissioner’s Cup. However, Fajardo, who again is nursing an injury, is expected to play only limited minutes.
