MANILA, Philippines – The future is here.

SLAM Philippines brings together the top 24 high school basketball stars in the metro in the first ever SLAM Rising Stars Classic presented by Cherifer PGM 10-22 slated for Saturday, March 29 at the Gatorade Hoops Center in Mandaluyong City. 

The high school all star game serves as a platform to showcase the nation’s top cagers in front of scouts, professional basketball players, and media. It also gives these young players another chance to prove their worth, especially with the next season of top collegiate tournaments just around the corner.

“The SLAM Rising Stars Classic is a gathering of the best high school players; a unique opportunity to introduce the future of the sport to influencers in the basketball community”, said Mico Halili, Editor-At-Large of SLAM Philippines.

The exhibition match on Saturday, March 29 shall tip-off at 4 PM and shall be aired on Fox Sports at 8 PM on Sunday, April 20. Replay dates are scheduled on April 21 (5 PM), April 22 (5  AM), April 23 (10PM), and April 26 (1 PM).

Among the talents in the 24-man showdown are UAAP and NCAA Juniors Most Valuable Players Thirdy Ravena of Ateneo de Manila University and Prince Rivero of La Salle Greenhills. Finals MVPs Hubert Cani of National University and Arvin Tolentino of the San Red Cubs will also see action.

Ravena and Tolentino have already committed to play for the Blue Eagles in the next season of the UAAP.

PBA champion and former PH U-18 head coach Olsen Racela will coach Team Punks; he is assisted by 12-time PBA champion Johnny Abarrientos. Team Punks is composed of John Apacible of Hope Christian High School, Michael Calisaan of San Sebastina Colelge, Isaiah Dandan of University of Sto. Tomas, Diego Dario of University of the Philippines, Adven Diputado and JayVee Mocon of San Beda College, JJ Domingo of Far Eastern University, Jay Javelosa of Reedley International School, Alfred Gayosa of San Sebastian College, Reinier Quinga of Adamson University, Thirdy Ravena of Ateneo de Manila University, and Lorenzo Subido of De la Salle Zobel. 

Jamike Jarin, the head coach of the PH U-17 national team will call the shots for Team Hype together with 2011 PBA MVP Jimmy Alapag of Talk ‘N Text. Part of Team Hype are Hubert Cani, teammate JP Cauilan, Arjan Dela Cruz and Clint Doliguez of Hope Christian High School, Richard Escoto of Far Eastern University, Mike and Matt Nieto of Ateneo de Manila University, Prince Rivero, Arvin Tolentino and Ranbill Tongco of San Beda College, Jeric Adorio of Jose Rizal University, and Rhanzelle Yong of San Sebastian College.
