MANILA, Philippines – Bryan Gahol, a former Philippines Basketball Association (PBA) player, died in a car crash on Monday night, March 31. 

According to reports, the crash occurred on the northbound lane of the South Luzon Expressway and involved a cargo jeep, a truck and Gahol’s Nissan Urvan. Gahol, 36, was with a female companion who also died. 

Three other companions survived without injuries while two others involved in the accident were hurt. 

Gahol was a former cager for the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons in the 90s and joined the PBA in 1999. The 6-foot-5 bigman played for various teams including Alaska, San Miguel Beer, Mobiline, and Red Bull. Gahol later pursued a career in politics in his hometown of Los Baños, Laguna.

According to PBA statician Fidel Mangonon III, Gahol was one of three rookies on his team to register double-doubles in their first two games. Gahol averaged 5 points and 2.6 rebounds during his career, according to Spin.PH. – Rappler.com
