Iverson, Cone to hold basketball clinic in Quezon City

MANILA, Philippines – Former NBA star Allen Iverson and Grand Slam-winning coach Tim Cone of the San Mig Super Coffee Mixers will collaborate on a basketball clinic on November 4 at Bgy. Holy Spirit in Quezon City.

According to a press release, the clinic, which begins at 3 pm, will also feature PBA personalities Harvey Carey of Talk N’ Text Tropang Texters, former MVP Willie Miller of Barako Bull Energy Cola, Sol Mercado and Chris Ross of San Miguel Beermen, and Jayjay Helterbrand of Barangay Ginebra San Miguel.

The clinic will precede Iverson’s “All In” charity basketball event on November 5 at the Mall of Asia Arena, which will benefit Gawad Kalinga. Former NBA players Gilbert Arenas and Eddy Curry, plus members of the Ball Up basketball crew will participate. 

“I’m so honored to work with one of the true legends of the NBA. Just his mere presence will excite everyone,” said Cone of the 2000-01 NBA MVP.

“Allen impacted a whole generation with his style and flair. Young people copied the way he played and copied the clothes he wore. He was also one of the great scorers in NBA history despite his height and frame, and he often carried teams on his back to the playoffs. He was a true winner on and off the court,” Cone added. 

“My Philippine agent, Sheryl Reyes, has told me about coach Tim and how he wrote history by winning championships in the PBA. I know how passionate and knowledgeable he is about the game, and us working together to teach Filipinos about the sport excites me a lot,” Iverson is quoted in the release.
