Gilas cadets pummel Indonesia by 29 in SEA Games men's basketball
MANILA, Philippines – The Gilas cadets shrugged off early tentativeness and settled down to clobber Indonesia, 81-52, in the 2015 Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) men's basketball tournament in Singapore on Wednesday, June 10.
The cadets, comprised of collegiate stars and anchored by veteran naturalized center Marcus Douthit, allowed Indonesia to stay within 8 points in the first half even as they zoomed to an early 10-0 advantage.
But team captain Kiefer Ravena sparked the cadets in the third period to open up 24-point bulges that soon ballooned to 30 by the final frame.
UAAP MVP Ravena topscored with 16 points on 5 for 10 field goals while Troy Rosario and Almond Vosotros added 15 and 14 points, respectively.
Rosario also had 7 rebounds as Vosotros added two assists.
Kevin Ferrer and Norbert Torres contributed 8 points apiece.
La Salle big man Torres hauled down 8 boards while NU's Glenn Khobuntin collared another 7.
Douthit, who briefly went out with an apparent ankle injury but came back later in the game, chipped in 6 points and 9 rebounds.
NCAA MVP Scottie Thompson was helped off the court by his teammates after a scuffle in the third, which also involved Ravena.
No Indonesian player reached double figures as its bench players carried the scoring load.
Guard Oki Wira Sanjaya led with 9 points while Galank Gunawan and Ebrahim Enguio had 8 points each, all off the bench.
