MOA Arena gets high grades from FIBA for Olympic Qualifiers
'The Manila hosting of the Olympic Qualifiers will be big not only for Philippine basketball but also for Asia as well,' says FIBA's Asian Competitions Manager

MANILA, Philippines – Yoon Wai Sun, FIBA’s Asian Competitions Manager, was in town to inspect the Mall of Asia Arena for the upcoming Olympic Qualifiers which will take place July 5-10.

“I think what you have here is a fantastic facility,” said Sun. “The Manila hosting of the Olympic Qualifiers will be big not only for Philippine basketball but also for Asia as well. It puts our region in the spotlight. And hopefully, we will get more and even bigger events.”

Turkey, Senegal, Canada, France, and New Zealand are the 5 other countries competing in this qualifying event to be held in Manila. Turin, Italy, and Belgrade, Serbia are the two other cities hosting the Olympic Qualifiers where only the winner of each leg will book a spot in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio.

Sun inspected the facility along with Bernie Atienza, Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas Domestic Competitions Manager and  Ramon Martelino, LOC Deputy Event Coordinator.

“We are expecting a huge number of media to cover this event,” added Sun. “We will be getting a huge contingent from Europe, Africa, and North America and we want this event to be special and smooth sailing.”

Added Atienza. “This hosting event will open doors for us in the future.”

Sun says he was very satisfied with the inspection of the facility. “We have to make sure that all the teams come in and with no problems at all. I must congratulate the management of the MOA Arena and the SBP for their attention to detail and quality.” – Rappler.com
