Knicks’ Noah undergoes knee surgery, out for 3-4 weeks

NEW YORK, USA – New York Knicks star Joakim Noah underwent knee surgery on Monday, February 27 (Tuesday in Manila) and faces several weeks on the sidelines, the NBA team said.

A brief statement from the Knicks said Noah, 32, had undergone a procedure to remove “a loose body” from his left knee. 

“He will be re-evaluated in 3-4 weeks,” the Knicks said, following reports that Noah could miss the remainder of the regular season.

Noah joined the Knicks last year on a 4-year, $72-million deal after 9 seasons with the Chicago Bulls, who recruited him as ninth pick in the 2007 draft.

However, the 6-foot-11, 230-pound Noah has been missing for 7 games as he battles a hamstring problem and hasn’t played since February 4.

The Frenchman underwent surgery on the same knee in May 2014, according a report on ESPN, but the latest procedure addressed a different injury.

Noah, the son of French tennis great Yannick, has averaged a disappointing 5.0 points in 46 games this season, well down on his career average of 9.0 points and 9.4 rebounds per game.

The Knicks are languishing in the bottom half of the Eastern Conference standings in 12th place with a 24-35 record, 4 wins adrift of the playoff places. – Rappler.com
