MIAMI, USA – Seven-time NBA All-Star Tracy McGrady, inducted earlier this year into the Basketball Hall of Fame, was named on Friday, October 6 as a special assistant to Orlando Magic chief executive Alex Martins.

McGrady, who played for the Magic from 2000 to 2004, will be available to players and coaches as well as assisting and advising executives in several areas, including promotions.

“We’re extremely pleased to bring him back home,” Martins said. “Having Tracy McGrady, a perennial All-Star and a Hall of Famer, on our staff is tremendous for our entire organization.

“Whether it will be on the court with the team or in the Central Florida community, Tracy’s knowledge, experience and stature will be an incredible asset for our players and our organization.”

“I am thrilled to be back where I truly made a name for myself,” McGrady said. “I am excited to be able to help them with whatever they may need.”

McGrady played 15 seasons in the NBA with Orlando, Toronto, Houston, New York, Detroit, Atlanta and San Antonio before retiring in 2013. He also spent the 2012-13 campaign with China’s Qingdao DoubleStar Eagles. – Rappler.com
