Derrick Rose heads to Pistons, Jimmy Butler joins Heat

MANILA, Philippines – Derrick Rose and Jimmy Butler will see action for new teams next season as the NBA free agency continues to go wild.

Rose has left the Minnesota Timberwolves and agreed to a two-year, $15-million deal with the Detroit Pistons, while Butler agreed to a four-year, $142-million deal with the Miami Heat through a sign-and-trade with the Philadelphia 76ers.

The former NBA MVP Rose put up one of his best seasons in recent years, averaging 18 points, 4.3 assists, and 2.7 rebounds for the Timberwolves. 

He will join a Pistons squad – his fifth NBA team – that advanced to the Eastern Conference playoffs and are expected to contend again next season with holdovers Andre Drummond and Blake Griffin.

Butler, meanwhile, normed 18.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4 assists, and 1.8 steals last season en route to helping the 76ers reach the East semifinals before they fell to eventual NBA champions Toronto Raptors.
