JC Intal signs one-year extension with the Barako Bull Energy Cola
Intal put up career-high averages last PBA season by registering 12.8 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game.

MANILA, Philippines – Swingman JC Intal has signed a one-year extension that will keep him with the Barako Bull Energy Cola through the 2015-2016 PBA season, Rappler learned on Friday, July 24.

Assuming he won’t be traded during the offseason, Intal will be in an Energy Cola uniform when the next PBA season kicks off in October. The specifics of his deal were not disclosed.

Intal put up career-high averages last PBA season by registering 12.8 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game. He also averaged 30.4 minutes a game – his most ever in his PBA career – while shooting 40% from the field.

“I’m very excited,” Intal said about returning to Barako Bull, “especially for the All-Filipino Conference.”

Barako Bull has already been busy this offseason, dealing guard Joseph Yeo to GlobalPort for their 2016 first round draft pick and back-up guard Carlo Lastimosa to Blackwater for Brian Heruela.

“I really don’t know what to expect because we lost Carlo and Joseph,” Intal admitted, “but I’m excited for my other teammates to shine – especially Nico Salva.”

Salva, a 5-time UAAP champion with the Ateneo Blue Eagles, has played limited minutes so far in his 2-year PBA career.

After putting putting up 3.3 points and 2 rebounds in 11.9 minutes per contest in his rookie year with GlobalPort, Salva averaged 2.4 points and 0.9 rebounds in 6.8 minutes a game with the Energy last season.

Barako Bull made the playoffs in each PBA conference last season, but failed to get past the quarterfinal round in each trip.

Intal, a former champion and star for the Blue Eagles in the UAAP, was lauded by coach Koy Banal for his strong work ethic that resonates with coaches and teammates.

“I’m just thankful for his attitude,” Banal said after a loss to TNT on Saturday, March 28. “He’s a positive influence to the team.”
