PBA Board appoints Narvasa as CEO

MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – The PBA Board of Governors appointed Chito Narvasa as chief executive officer or CEO of the league, on top of his role as commissioner, media bureau chief Willie Marcial informed reporters Wednesday, March 9.

The decision was made during a special board meeting on Monday, March 7.

Effective immediately, Narvasa takes over for incumbent chairman Robert Non, who served as CEO on an interim basis this year.

According to Marcial, Narvasa will create a brand new organizational structure for the league, which he will submit to the board when they meet on Thursday, April 7.

Last season, former commissioner Chito Salud was appointed as president and CEO while Narvasa served as commissioner. But Salud resigned from his post at the end of 2015 after only a few months on the job.

The special board meeting also tackled the reinstatement of Rhose Montreal as marketing director of the PBA. According to a league statement posted on its official Twitter account, Montreal made an appeal to reapply for her old position after resigning amid a report of allegedly falsifying her college diploma.

“In a Special Meeting, the Board in lengthy deliberations approved the hiring of Ms. Montreal primarily, among others, for humanitarian reasons and because of her exemplary performance,” the PBA said. – Rappler.com
