Romeo is the Batang Pier's leading scorer this PBA season

MANILA, Philippines – The already ailing GlobalPort Batang Pier have even more injury woes as leading scorer Terrence Romeo was ruled out of the team’s game against the Alaska Aces on Saturday, March 12, at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay.

Romeo injured his calf in his team’s last matchup against the Blackwater Elite and is being advised to rest one week while he deals with what’s being called a calf strain.

“[Si] Terrence, may calf strain siya,” GlobalPort PT Eric Cruz told Rappler on Saturday, “so he was advised to rest for one week.”

Romeo is the team’s leading scorer this PBA season, averaging 24.4 points a game to go with 3.8 rebounds and 3.1 assists, per pba-online.net.

Cruz, who said Romeo was injured when an Elite player hit him, also added: “We just want to make sure na 100% siya.”

The Batang Pier are currently on a 3-game losing streak and have stumbled to a 2-4 record to open the Commissioner’s Cup after making the semifinals Philippine Cup semifinals.

GlobalPort is also missing reigning PBA Rookie of the Year Stanley Pringle against Alaska as the 29-year-old deals with an ankle sprain.

Pringle, who’s averaging 18.7 points and 4.2 assists a game this season, has already missed two games, but told Rappler “I think I’ll play next game.”

“I think so,” he added, while Cruz also said “Hopefully next game.”

When asked how the ankle is feeling, Pringle gave a thumbs up.

As of posting time, the Batang Pier lead the Aces in the second quarter. Their next game is against the Star Hotshots on Friday, March 18. – Rappler.com
