WATCH: Pacquiao confirms he’ll be at PBA game after Senate

MANILA, Philippines – Senator Manny Pacquiao’s day won’t be over after the Senate session Wednesday, August 3 as he will go straight to his team’s PBA game at 7 pm at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The Filipino boxing icon turned politician and one-time pro basketball playing coach was re-activated by his PBA team Mahindra Enforcer on Tuesday, August 2, in lieu of injured starting guard LA Revilla, who reportedly broke his nose after getting elbowed in practice during Monday’s practice and has since undergone operation.

“Pagkatapos dito, pupunta (ako) after dito (After this I will go there),” Pacquiao told Rappler in a quick interview at the Senate. He did not specify whether he will play or not.

The newly elected senator was the first playing coach of two-year-old team Mahindra, and played a total of just 39 minutes in 6 games in the PBA. He has made only one of his 13 total field goal attempts and last played a PBA game two conferences ago in November 2015.

Pacquiao, 37, may be on the road to a pro basketball comeback just as he is considering un-retiring from boxing with a fight possibly taking place later this year.

Having received criticism for juggling multiple roles outside of his job in government, Pacquiao again emphasized he will not let playing in the PBA interfere with his job at the Senate.

“Pagka matapat sa walang session, makakapunta ako,” said the former Sarangani representative, adding the team understands his priorities. “Basta hindi maapektuhan yung trabaho ko.”

Pacquiao was activated just in time for the Enforcer’s game against Alaska as they aim to maintain their spotless, league-leading 3-0 record.

The PBA also announced Pacquiao will take Revilla’s slot in the 2016 PBA All-Star Blitz Game on Friday, August 5, where PBA legends, D-League players, and current stars will team up. – with reports from Camille Elemia/Rappler.com
