Streaking TNT defeats Phoenix to remain undefeated

MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – TNT Katropa outscored the Phoenix Fuel Masters by 20 in the third period to take control of the game, leading to their 124-117 victory on Friday, August 19, at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.

Imports Michael Madanly and Mychal Ammons led the way for TNT, which improved to a league-best and undefeated 6-0 in the PBA Governors’ Cup standings. Phoenix had its two-game winning streak snapped and dropped to 2-4.

Madanly finished with 30 points off the bench, making 8-of-13 from deep. Ammons added 22 points and 18 boards, while Ranidel De Ocampo finished with 14 points in 22 minutes.

The second half opened with both teams tied at 52. TNT started its run with 4:42 left in the period, extending a 68-64 edge to 20 by the end of the third quarter thanks to a 20-4 run, which included a trio of 3-balls from Madanly and De Ocampo.

The Fuel Masters trimmed into the lead before the game ended, but most of that took place during garbage time.

Phoenix import Eugene Phelps had another explosive performance with 49 points and 19 rebounds, while rookie Simon Enciso added 17 off the bench.
