Ginebra continues to roll following win over Mahindra

MANILA, Philippines – Barangay Ginebra San Miguel continued to roll after winning its 3rd straight game, this time against the Mahindra Enforcers, 93-86, on Friday, September 9, at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

In a match between two of the top 4 teams in the PBA Governors’ Cup standings, Ginebra pulled away in the 2nd quarter by outscoring Mahindra, 23-12, to improve to 7-3 with the elimination round nearing a close.

Mahindra, on the other hand, lost its second straight game and fell to 6-4.

Import Justin Brownlee led Ginebra with 27 points and 17 rebounds, while Japeth Aguilar accounted for 19 points, 4 boards, and 3 blocks. Rookie Scottie Thompson also played well with 12 points and 12 boards, while big man Greg Slaughter made his return and had 7 points plus 4 rebounds in a little over 10 minutes.

After Ginebra took a 9-point lead to the half, Mahindra kept slicing the deficit to a 2 or 3-possession game, but was unable to break through and re-take the lead. 

The Enforcers got within 3, 89-86, with 35 seconds left after a Pedrito Galanza layup, but on the next play, a foul sent Brownlee to the line where he hit a pair of free throws. Following a Mahindra turnover, LA Tenorio then hit two more charities to ice the game.

Import James White led the Enforcers with 23 points and 13 boards, while Paolo Taha added 20 points. – Rappler.com
