San Miguel knocks down TNT by 14 points in Game 2
MANILA, Philippines – The San Miguel Beermen shrugged off a 17-point deficit in the first quarter to defeat TNT KaTropa in a 102-88 outing on Friday, June 23, in Game 2 of the PBA Commissioner's Cup Finals at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
TNT started strong and unleashed a huge 17-0 run early in the first quarter as Jayson Castro fired off 7 points including a three-pointer.
Former San Beda Manila Red Lion Anthony Semerad helped maintain the advantage with his back-to-back treys to put KaTropa ahead, 5-17.
But Arwind Santos refused to accept another defeat as he carried San Miguel in the first period with a perfect 3-for-3 shooting from downtown that breathed life to the Beermen.
San Miguel took advantage of TNT’s inability to convert shots to remain in the game, trailing by two at 30-32.
KaTropa lost the momentum as they were unable to score for 6 minutes and gave San Miguel the opportunity to bag a 12-0 blitz.
Josh Smith also received technical foul in the second quarter after he carelessly threw the ball that hit the referee’s face.
At halftime, the tables officially turned as TNT hands over the lead to San Miguel as they sealed the second quarter, 52-43, with Santos leading the Beermen as he registered 11 points and 4 rebounds.
The Beermen consistently improved their offense while working hard to maintain a solid defense as they led by as much as 28 points in the 3rd quarter, 90-62.
Troy Rosario shot back-to-back triples with 3:59 minutes remaining in the last period while the rest maintained sluggish man-to-man defense but the effort wasn't enough to spark another win for TNT.
