MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Basketball Association will donate a portion of its ticket sales for the duration of the 2017 Governors’ Cup elimination round to victims of the Marawi City conflict.

In a press release on Sunday, July 30, league commissioner Chito Narvasa expressed his sympathies to those affected by the clashes between government troops and terrorists.

He also acknowledged the many PBA fans of the south. Marawi City, as well as the rest of Mindanao, remain under martial law.

“The PBA family sympathizes with the victims of the ongoing conflict in Marawi City,” said Narvasa.

“The PBA has a huge fan base in that city and it pains us deeply to know that many lives were lost and many families displaced. On behalf of the PBA Board of Governors, we are setting aside a portion of our ticket sales in the elimination round to help them in their recovery.”

In addition, general admission tickets will be sold at a discounted price beginning Wednesday, August 2.

Those tickets will be priced at P30 for the entire elimination round during games played on Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum and at the Mall of Asia Arena.

The league also paid tribute to the fallen police and soldiers last month during Independence Day. – Rappler.com
